Durango hockey teams win Grizz Cup

Durango Youth hockey teams were busy over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, with many competing in the Gizz Cup in Salt Lake City.

Three teams from Durango reached the tournament’s championship, and two of them scored titles.

Durango’s 14U A-team won its division.

The 12U A-team also won its division, winning the championship in overtime.

The 10U A-team also reached its division’s finals, but ended up losing by one goal to finish in second place.

Durango’s high school 19U girl’s team was also in action, taking on the New Mexico Mustangs on its home ice. Freshman goalie Fiona Chandler made 50 saves in the game, helping Durango tie New Mexico, 4-4. The girls will play twice Saturday in Gunnison, taking on the Colorado 14ers and later Steamboat Springs.
