A single-story home caught fire early Friday in the 1000 block of East Fifth Avenue, causing about $3,000 in damage, fire officials said.
The Durango Fire Protection District received a call about 12:45 a.m. that a tree fell on a power line, said Battalion Chief Rod Allen. While firefighters were en route, the same property owner made a second call reporting an odor of burning plastic in a bedroom at the back of the home, Allen said.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke billowing from gable vents near the top of the home. The engine crew called in a structure fire, and DFPD responded with a ladder truck, two engines and two ambulances.
Upon arrival, two residents were standing outside; no injuries were reported, Allen said.
Firefighters located the fire in an attic of the structure; the blaze was extinguished within 45 minutes, Allen said.
The fire did not cause structural damage, and the home was habitable after firefighters doused the flames, Allen said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Allen said.
