Durango hosts 45-player tennis tournament

Colak, Monell win men’s, women’s singles championships at DHS

Durango’s biggest and most competitive tennis tournament, hosted by the Durango Community Tennis Association, drew 45 participants from around the Four Corners in mid-July at the Durango High School tennis courts.

The results:

Men’s A Singles: Ali Colak def. Jeff Clark, 6-2, 6-2.

Men’s A Doubles: Jeff Clark and Dave Pitts vs. Ali Colak, Jim Gates, rained out.

Women’s A Singles: Janet Monell def. Kelly Cunnion, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

Women’s A Doubles: Eva Lou Edwards and Mavis Edwards def. Carol Roberts and Karwyn Gustafson, 6-4, 1-6, 13-11.

Men’s B Singles: Jim Piesel def. Bob Green, 6-3, 6-4.

Men’s B Doubles: Jim Piesel and Bob Green def. Mike Mariska and Maurice Allen, 6-4, 7-5.

Consolation Round: Fred Edwards def. Dustin Gilstrap; Vivian and Eva Lou Edwards def. Luther and Dustin Gilstrap; Terri Wells def. Erika Pitcher; Linda Arnold and Cheryl Roy def. Stevie Spencer and Khris Agnos.
