Durango, Ignacio in wrestling action over weekend

The Durango High School wrestling team spent the weekend in Grand Junction matching up with the top competition in the state.

Cole Gustavson went down in weight to the 160-pound weight class and made it to the semifinals. Gustavson wrestled five ranked opponents.

“It’s a slow process but we’re really working hard to improve the fundamentals,” said Durango head wrestling coach Leo Garand in a phone interview with The Durango Herald.

David Etz came away with a win against Olathe’s Cody Frantz. Nick Vasquez and Tristan Martinez also picked up wins for the Demons.

Four Bobcats go 5-0

The Ignacio High School wrestling team traveled to the Piedra Vista Panther Classic in Farmington, N.M. on December 19, and returned home by coming in seventh overall.
