Durango man dies outside friend’s house

A Durango man who was on his way to a friend’s house didn’t quite make it; he died in his truck outside the house in the 100 block of Alamo Drive, said La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith.

Jerry Floyd Barth, 57, was found slumped over in his pickup about 12:20 p.m., said Sgt. Deck Shaline, with the Durango Police Department.

Barth was terminally ill with cancer, Smith said.

Barth apparently pulled up to his friend’s house shortly after noon. He didn’t come inside right away, and when his friend went to check on him, he found Barth slumped over on the steering wheel, Smith said.

He was moved to the street where first responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but it was too late, Smith said.
