A 30-year-old Durango man was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail and three years’ probation after pleading guilty to trying to meet with a 14-year-old persona created by the Durango Police Department.
Oscar Ramiro Contreras was arrested in February after the Durango Police Department posted fake ads online in an attempt to elicit responses from people interested in sexual contact with a child.
At the time, Durango police announced three men were arrested, each of whom planned to meet the 14-year-old persona in a public location “for the purpose of having sex,” according to arresting documents.
Contreras pleaded guilty to internet luring of a child, a Class 5 felony.
Under the agreement, the court had the discretion to sentence Contreras to up to three years in the Department of Corrections or Community Corrections, or up to 90 days in jail and probation, said District Attorney Christian Champagne.
