The accident was reported about 11:45 a.m. about five miles up Kendall Mountain Road, said San Juan County Sheriff Bruce Conrad.

The man, who he declined to identify, suffered serious bodily injury, he said.

“We definitely called the helicopter for a reason,” Conrad said.

A witness reported the man hit some snow and slid off a snowbank. He was brought down Kendall Mountain on a different vehicle. A medical helicopter from Mercy Regional Medical Center met the party, and the injured man was airlifted to the hospital.
