After numerous high school ski events were canceled due to weather, the Durango ski team made its visit to Ski Cooper on Friday worthwhile by winning the men’s slalom and the women finished third.

Senior Ian Fehr finished first on Friday with a combined time from two runs of one minute, 15 seconds and 67 hundredths of a second. Junior Holden Bronson finished second with a combined time of 1:15.72 and junior Zach Oliver was fourth with a combined time of 1:17.57 as the last Demon to finish in the top 10.

On the women’s side, senior Lauren McClellan was the lone Demon in the top 10 with a combined time of 1:24.33. Sophomore Brianna Tomberlin finished 13th with a time of 1:25.63 and senior Annabel Carithers finished 14th with a time of 1:26.11. No other Demon finished in the top 20 on the women’s side.

Fehr, Bronson, Oliver, and Corbin Horrocks all qualified for slalom at the CHSAA state meet on the men’s side. On the women’s side, McClellan, Tomberlin and Carithers qualified for state with their times as well.

“I am so happy to see everyone working so hard and hopefully achieving their goals that they set in November,” Durango head coach Jill Carithers said in an email. “Great JOB everyone! I have seen so much improvement over the past few weeks as we all get in our grove.”
