The Durango boys soccer team continues to show why it’s one of the best programs in the area.
The Demons secured a 2-0 win over Pagosa Springs on Tuesday night, their fourth-straight victory. Durango improved to 8-2 on the season, while Pagosa Springs dropped to 5-4-2.
“It was one of our most solid performances,” Durango head coach Danny Suits said. “We spread the ball out and moved it around really well. We maintained possession as well as we have all year. It's really good to see.”
A goal midway through the first half by Chuck Gleason gave the Demons a 1-0 lead. Gleason received a through ball into the 18-yard box on the left side. He then ripped a shot across the goalkeeper and into the right side of the net.
Teryk Webber scored Durango’s second goal late in the second half. Webber caught the goalkeeper off-guard with a rocket from 25-30 yards away.
Durango has scored at least two goals in every contest this season except for its 2-0 loss to Glenwood Springs on Aug. 26. The Demons are averaging 3.6 goals scored per match.
The Demons’ 4-3-3 formation will be tested this weekend as Durango travels to Fruita Monument on Friday and Grand Junction on Saturday. GJHS handed Durango its second loss this season on Sept. 8.
“They're usually well coached,” Suits said of Fruita Monument. “They usually have a solid roster and a couple of great playmakers. We're excited to face them this year and see what they have.”
