Durango named top Christmas (and redneck) destination

Durango, with its family-friendly Polar Express, was named one of the top 50 best Christmas destinations by Newsmax.

Apparently, Durango is the perfect destination, offering family-friendly Polar Express rides and lots of alcohol.

Our fair burg is one of the top 50 best Christmas destinations this year, according to Newsmax, a national media outlet. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad helped Durango beat out Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Park City, Utah, in the listing.

The town should also please rednecks who come to town, as it was also named in a top 10 list of the most redneck towns in Colorado.

Durango came in No. 8 in the redneck listing by Roadsnacks, an infotainment site, because of its high number of bars, tobacco stores and fishing-gear and ammo outlets per capita. Manitou Springs, Trinidad, Pueblo and Holyoke are also called out for their redneck flavor.

It’s a listing meant in good fun: “Don’t freak out,” the site cautions.

But don’t pass up the opportunity for a merry redneck Christmas.
