Durango Nature Studies to host Earth Day Festival

Durango Nature Studies will hold its Earth Day Festival at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rotary Park.

Borrowing a phrase from Dr. Seuss’ Lorax, the theme is “Loving My Planet a Whole Awful Lot.” DNS has joined with the city of Durango, Citizens Climate Lobby and Indivisible’s Environmental Committee to host this community event.

Before the festival begins, there will be a litter cleanup along the Animas River Trail at noon.

The Pete Guiliani Band will kick off the activities at 1 p.m. at Rotary Park. Environmental organizations will talk about their work and speakers will share their stories. Activities for children will be available, and refreshments will be provided. Four Corners River Sports will host kayak races at 3:30 p.m.

Participants will march from Rotary Park to Durango Public Library at 3:30 p.m. Marchers can either park at the library or return along the river trail to cheer on the kayak racers.
