Every other town in Colorado, large or small, has a well-designed sign, welcoming others to their community, except Durango.
If you come into the city limits on Hwy 160 from the west or the east, you can go out the other side and never know where the town of Durango is/was. Our historical downtown Durango monument sign is not seen at our most confusing continuous flow intersection, where drivers are focused on figuring out which way to go.
Most cities/towns have a slogan. Do we? For example, Ignacio’s is "Rooted in Culture." It tells you something about the community’s values and it welcomes you when you enter, from all directions. Surely, we could do that, too, couldn’t we? Who would be in charge of making that happen? Our City Council? Our city manager?
So we don’t have to hire a new consultant and do another study, I propose that we could use the signature Durango image used at the recreation center with mountains in the background. Then figure out what our slogan might be by asking for citizen suggestions. Then use local designers to submit designs and, finally, decide by citizen voting. I would hope voting would include all county residents as well. We are the ones who come and go every day in cars, on highways, like our many workers and tourists.
