Durango needs big push for bike park

It’s not over yet, but to put it bluntly, Durango is getting smoked so far in voting for a grant to help with the Chapman Hill Bike Park.

Trails 2000 is pulling out all stops to win. To vote, visit www.bellhelmets.com/bellbuilt.

Even better, visit www.trails2000.org/2014/04/bellbuiltcontest and follow directions to possibly win a two-night stay in Durango and ride with Olympian Travis Brown.

Durango is one of four communities in the Central region in the running for $100,000 worth of Bell Built grants sponsored by Bell Helmets and the International Mountain Bike Association.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Andres Bike Park (Chicago), had 6,105 votes. Cottage Grove Bike Park (Minnesota) had 5,955. Hobbs Hollow Flow Trail near Nashville, Ind., trails was last with 2,224 votes.

Chapman Hill, sponsored by Trails 2000, had 3,708 votes.

Voting ends Sunday.

If it wins, Durango plans to use its share to help build a pump track – basically an oval BMX track that riders can get through by pumping their handlebars – at Chapman.
