Durango High School is making a change with one of its fall sports teams.
Durango Athletic Director Ryan Knorr announced in an email to players and parents that coach Danny Suits will not return next season.
“We appreciate his time, effort, energy and contributions to the team following two very successful years for the boys' program,” Knorr said in the email about Suits on February 27. “We realize this might evoke multiple responses and change is always stressful; however, we feel like this was the best decision for the students and for the team moving forward. Our team has tons of potential and we are excited about the future of these young men and what they can accomplish together.”
In Suits’ two years as Durango’s coach, the Demons went 28-4-1 overall and 14-1-1 in the 4A Southwestern League.
After an undefeated regular season in 2022, the Demons were upset 1-0 by 32nd-seeded Coronado in the first round of the 4A playoffs. In 2023, Durango lost in the second round to Air Academy in penalty kicks after a 12-2-1 regular season.
Knorr also said in the email he hopes to have players, teachers, parents and coaches on the hiring panel. He also said the school hopes to continue the process after spring break.
