Durango police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that allegedly hit four parked vehicles and left the scene.

Just before 1:45 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the 900 of block of East Third Avenue just east of downtown Durango regarding four vehicles – a 2002 Chevrolet pickup, a 2018 Nissan Frontier, a 2019 Subaru Impreza and a 2007 Toyota 4-Runner – that were hit.

DPD was still investigating the incident as of Tuesday afternoon.

Durango police Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop said those four parked vehicles sustained “visible, extensive damage” on their rear sides, leading police to believe the truck in question – a 2004 Dodge Ram – was traveling in the same direction as the parked vehicles.

No injuries were reported, but a woman who heard the crash told police the truck that allegedly hit the four parked vehicles left the scene and kept going north on Third Avenue, Dunlop said.

Police later found the Dodge Ram parked about 2 miles north at the Riverview Sports Complex, 855 Plymouth Drive. Dunlop said police did not find anyone inside or near the truck, but found extensive front-end damage consistent with the damage found on the parked vehicles.

The Dodge Ram is registered locally and police were able to get in touch with owner on Monday. But DPD was still investigating the case Tuesday as its unclear whether the owner of the vehicle was the driver Saturday night, Dunlop said.

The Dodge Ram is registered locally, but police are still looking to get in touch with the registered owner, Dunlop said. It’s still unknown whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the crash, Dunlop said.

“We towed the vehicle to a secure yard, and the officers are working on a search warrant before they actually go in and start searching through the vehicle,” he said.

Police are looking to see if there may be a home with a doorbell camera near where the crash happened, Dunlop said.
