Durango police search for stolen guitars

Two instruments taken from storage unit this summer

Police are looking for suspects after a Durango man reported that two guitars, valued collectively at more than $7,000, were stolen from his storage unit.

A $3,700 Martin acoustic guitar with a natural wood finish and a $3,500 Gibson Les Paul with a sunburst color finish, both in $300 black hard cases, were reported stolen from a storage locker sometime between June 13 and Aug. 26 at the Armadillo Storage Units, 1555 Colorado Highway 3, said Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop with the Durango Police Department.

Dunlop said police have serial numbers for both guitars and have asked for surveillance footage from the storage company. He said the storage unit was not forcibly opened and others had access to it.

Police have no suspects at this time. The crime is second-degree burglary and is a Class 4 felony, Dunlop said.
