Woman says she was sexually assaulted while hiking near Powerline Trail

The Durango Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman Tuesday night in east Durango.

The alleged assault occurred sometime between 7:20 and 8 p.m. in the vicinity of Powerline Trail, east of the Skyline Apartments on Goeglein Gulch Road, according to a news release issued Wednesday afternoon by the police department.

The police department said a “college-aged female” had been hiking alone when a man unknown to the woman pushed her down and proceeded to sexually assault her.

The suspect was described as white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 200 pounds and clean-shaven. The man was wearing a dark-colored T-shirt, dark shorts and a black baseball hat, according to the release.

Anyone with information about the alleged assault is asked to contact Detective Garett Marr at 764-7035 or email leo.marr@durangogov.org.

If anyone sees any suspicious activity that is in progress in the area, they should call 911 or dispatch at 385-2900.
