A Durango man has been arrested on suspicion of felony menacing in connection with a heated exchange between him and his domestic partner this week in La Plata County.
Kyle Tischler, 19, was being held Tuesday in La Plata County jail on suspicion of menacing, harassment and domestic violence, said Lt. Ed Aber, with the sheriff’s office.
The incident was reported about 10 a.m. Monday in the 6400 block of Florida Road (County Road 240), about six miles northeast of city limits.
Tischler is suspected of intentionally rear-ending his car into the woman’s car. She fired a single gunshot into the ground and drove to her house, Aber said.
Tischler followed her and pointed a shotgun out the car window, he said.
The woman yelled at Tischler to drop the gun, which he did, Aber said. He then drove away.
Police found him hiding on a private drive behind a gate in the area.
The woman was not arrested, because deputies determined she fired the gun to protect herself, Aber said.
