Durango runs into a pair of top-10s

Peterson leads DHS with an All-State finish

Both Durango High School boys and girls cross country teams finished in the top 10 at the CHSAA Class 4A Cross Country State Championships.

The DHS boys team came in eighth and the girls 10th Saturday.

Hannah Peterson was the Demons’ top finisher in 20 minutes, 16.8 seconds, good for 15th place in the 5-kilometer race.

Shannon Maloney came in 31st place in 20:43.9, Sarah Bates 73rd in 21:43, Marley Weaver-Gabel 94th in 22:08.3, Emily Edwards-Colsman 127th in 22:36.8, Katarina Seibert 168th in 24:03.6 and Emily Schaldach 174th in 24:16.1.

Niwot’s Elise Cranny won the girls title in 18:07.8, while Thompson Valley won the team title.

Alastair McMillan was the Demons’ top boys finisher in 42nd place with a time of 17:47.7. Gordon Gianniny followed in 52nd at 17:56.3, Nicholas Turco 65th at 18:06, Sean McLaughlin 74th at 18:12.7, Joe Crawford 91st at 18:24.9, Benjamin Lachelt 109th at 18:33.1 and Trent Andrews 124th at 18:44.4.

Broomfield won the team championship, and Summit’s Liam Meirow took first in 16:27.1.
