Durango school board may name new superintendent tonight in open meeting

9-R meets via Zoom at 5 p.m. with goal of selecting candidate
Andrew Burns, Karen Cheser and Robert Lundin are the final three candidates to be Durango School District 9-R’s next superintendent.

In a late change, the Durango 9-R school board has decided to discuss selection of a new superintendent in an open meeting with the public scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. tonight.

Originally, the school board was slated to meet in closed session with the goal of selecting one of three finalists – Andrew Burns, Karen Cheser or Robert Lundin – to be the next superintendent.

Instead, school board President Kristin Smith said the board will first meet in open session to review the entire search process, share the results of community feedback and then deliberate and potentially select a new superintendent.

If a new superintendent is selected, the board will then go into executive session to begin contract negotiations with the selected candidate.

The meeting will be on Zoom and a link is available on the 9-R website.
