Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio school districts close Tuesday for icy road conditions

Icy weather leads to delayed start Tuesday for schools in Southwest Colorado

Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio school districts canceled classes Tuesday as a result of icy road conditions.

9-R’s announcement came shortly before 6 a.m., Bayfield made its decision shortly before 7:30 a.m. and Ignacio made the call at 7:49 a.m. In addition to icy road conditions, Bayfield reported a gas leak but provided no further details.

The previous night, area school districts said schools would operate on a two-hour delay.

As of 7:30 a.m., Ignacio School District had not canceled classes, according to its website.

9-R’s decision to cancel classes was made in collaboration with emergency management services, according to the school district’s brief announcement.

A one-day storm deposited several inches of snow Monday across much of Southwest Colorado. The storm was followed by freezing temperatures that made for icy roads late Monday and early Tuesday.
