Joe Kusar, who represents central and south Durango on the Durango School District 9-R board, resigned effective Thursday, and applications to fill the seat are being accepted.
Kusar, who was not present at the board meeting Tuesday night, is dealing with health issues and will focus on overcoming those challenges, said 9-R Superintendent Dan Snowberger.
School board members plan to interview replacements for Kusar at their next meeting Dec. 11.
Kusar represents District D. Anyone interested in the seat must reside in District D. Also, applicants must have resided in the district for the past 12 months and be registered voters in the district. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Dec. 6.
Applicants should include a letter of interest explaining reasons for applying and skills they would bring to the board. Letters can be emailed to board clerk Sarah Berggren at sberggren@durangoschools.org or mailed to Berggren at 201 E. 12th St. Durango, CO 81301.
