Durango School District 9-R is offering “early access” for highly-advanced children entering kindergarten or first grade.
The program intends to support students who are evaluated to be exceptional in aptitude and cognitive reasoning, academics, school readiness and motivation.
Eligibility is determined based on a thorough set of research-based procedures. Students must be born after Oct. 1 and younger than age 5 for kindergarten and younger than 6 for first grade.
Application packets are available for pickup at the Durango School District 9-R administration office, 201 E. 12th St. Applications and screening portfolios are due April 1. Determination letters will be sent within 60 days of application submission and no later than June 1.
Advanced learning plans will be created by Sept. 30, and progress will be monitored every five weeks during the first year.
