Durango selected to participate in LEED for Cities Leadership Program

The city of Durango is among 15 communities nationwide selected to participate in the LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program.

Through the Leadership Program, the city will receive technical and financial support to achieve certification through the LEED for Cities international framework for measuring and tracking action on climate, resilience and social equity. The framework is administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED green building rating system.

LEED, Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and expanded in 2018 to include cities and communities. Durango became LEED certified in 2018 and will recertify using the updated LEED for Cities framework.

Through the Leadership Program, supported by Bank of America, the city will receive technical assistance, educational resources and peer-to-peer networking opportunities. The program also waives the city’s U.S. Green Building Council membership, registration and certification fees.
