The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is one of nine national winners of the 2018 Wildfire Mitigation Awards.
The awards, sponsored by the National Association of State Foresters, International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Fire Protection Association and the USDA Forest Service, applaud outstanding dedication to wildfire mitigation across a spectrum of activities and variety of individuals and organizations.
FireWise of Southwest Colorado nominated the railroad for its approach to wildfire risk reduction.
Awards will be presented Feb. 28 at the IAFC Wildland-Urban Interface Conference in Reno, Nevada
