During a five-minute span Friday night, the Durango High School soccer team lost its concentration and gave up two goals in the span of five minutes, eventually falling 4-2.
The Demons (4-1) led early with a goal in the fifth minute from junior defender Logan Fullington with an assist from Rensler Beasley. The lead would not last long, as Evergreen (2-2) scored two goals just before the half, and Durango went down 2-1 at the break. Ten minutes into the second half, in the 55th minute, junior forward Lance Townsend knotted the game at two with a goal that came unassisted.
Durango could not hold on to the lead, as it went to sleep on defense, and Evergreen scored twice in five minutes. The Demons had opportunities toward the latter stages in the match in order to get a goal back but were unable to do so.
“We had some good pressure on them and didn’t capitalize on a couple opportunities late,” said Durango head coach Aaron Champenoy. “They were a good side and punished us for our mistakes.”
Durango will travel to Westminster at 11 a.m. Saturday where they will play The Academy.
