The Durango Demons just can’t find a rhythm.
A day after losing to Grand Junction Central 6-1, the Durango High School girls tennis team repeated the result against Montrose on Saturday.
“Once again, I think just the combination of girls being committed to so many different things and such a short season, it’s just so hard to be consistent and come out and pull it off,” said first-year DHS head coach Laura Ehlers, who missed the weekend trip with the flu.
In the No. 1 singles spot, Erin Neale lost 1-6, 7-5, 11-9.
No. 2 Sarah Harrelson lost 6-2, 6-3.
The Demons got their lone win of the day at No. 3 singles from Kit Hackett, who won 6-4, 6-1.
But the doubles teams – which have shuffled this season with absences, injuries, absences and illnesses – struggled mightily.
“That’s hard,” Ehlers said. “They don’t have a strategy or a game plan. But I think they had fun.”
No. 1 team Rachel Redders and Anna Wright lost 6-0, 6-0.
No. 2 team Hannah Lieberman and Jenni Snowberger lost 6-1, 6-3.
No. 3 team Audrey Morris and Rachel Cooper lost 6-3, 6-3.
No. 4 team Ellen Campbell and Tyllor Ledford lost 6-4, 6-0.
DHS will wrap up its regular season this weekend at home – first against Grand Junction at 4 p.m. Friday, then against Fruita Monument at 10 a.m. Saturday.
