Durango tennis serves Pueblo West

Demons improve to 5-1 in duels

The Durango High School girls tennis team took down Pueblo West on Thursday in Pueblo, 5-2, winning two of three singles matches and three of four doubles contests in the duel.

The Demons improved to 5-1 overall with the win. DHS then stayed in Pueblo to compete in Pueblo South’s tournament on Friday and Saturday.

At No. 1 singles against the Cyclones, Ellie Davenport of DHS scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory in straight sets over Gigi Bhagat.

“I was very happy to win my match against Pueblo West’s No. 1 player,” Davenport said. “During this season, our team has showed our experience and skill against really good teams. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them, and know that, if nothing else, they will continue to improve during our upcoming tournament.”

Andwyn Chowen also won for DHS at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, against Abbey Valdez.

At No. 3 singles, Jordan Kitchens was competitive but fell 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Ella Frihauf and Juliet DiGiacomo scored a 6-4, 6-3 win for the Demons.

Lola Bradshaw and Sydney Pritchard also scored a 6-1, 6-3 win for DHS at No. 2 doubles.

A third set was needed at No. 3 doubles, but Avery Edgar and Rachel Ager finished strong to take the match for DHS, 6-1, 3-6 (10-6).

Litzy Lopez and Addie Cady also battled for the Demons at No. 4 doubles, but came up short 6-3, 6-3.
