A day after losing 4-3 to Grand Junction, the Durango High School girls tennis team came back and beat the Tigers by the same score Saturday. The Demons then beat Delta 6-1 later in the day for a second win on their home court.

Against the Tigers, Durango won all four doubles matches Saturday for the team victory.

Durango’s No. 4 doubles team of Avery Edgar and Rachel Ager won in straight sets both days against Sarah Gaumer and Lanie Dougherty. After winning 6-3, 6-1 Friday, they improved their result Saturday and scored a 6-2, 6-1 win.

The rest of Durango’s doubles teams also improved their results from Friday.

No. 1 duo Adwyn Chowen and Juliet DiGiacomo won in three sets Friday, then turned around and won 6-4, 6-3 Saturday.

At No. 2 doubles, Lola Bradshaw and Ellie McLean also won in straight sets Saturday, 6-3, 6-2, after winning in three Friday.

With Grand Junction winning all three singles matches both days, the big win for DHS Saturday came at No. 4 doubles. Litzy Lopez and Addie Cady flipped their result from Friday to help DHS score the team win. Lopez and Cady fell in three sets Friday but came back Saturday and beat Madison Sites and Lily Echanova 6-2, 6-1.

Sophia Gallagher, meanwhile, lost to Grand Junction at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1. Ellie Davenport fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Sydney Pritchard fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Against Delta’s Panthers, however, Durango’s three singles players won in straight sets.

Gallagher won 6-0, 6-0. Davenport won 6-1, 6-0. Pritchard won 6-0, 6-3.

DHS also won three of the four doubles matches to finish comfortably on top.

Chowen and DiGiacomo won their match 6-0, 6-0, and Edgar and Ager won 6-2, 6-0 as both teams went 3-0 on the weekend.

Lopez and Cady also beat Delta 7(4)-6, 6-0.

Bradshaw and McLean won their first set at No. 2 doubles, but dropped the second set and fell in a tiebreaker, 10-8, in set 3.
