Durango to begin Spring Cleanup on Monday with new 5-week schedule

The city of Durango will launch a new five-week Spring Cleanup schedule beginning Monday and ending May 8.

City crews will move through residential neighborhoods to pick up these materials: furniture, large appliances, scrap metal, drywall, fencing, carpeting, tiles, open dried paint cans, tree trimmings and branches less than 8 feet in length and less than 8 inches in diameter, and bagged or boxed loose brush and leaves.

April 6-10: Rockridge Subdivision, Animas View Drive, SkyRidge Subdivision, Hill Crest Estates, North College Drive, Aquarius Place, Richard Drive, Linda Court, Willow Place, Goeglein Gulch Road, Sanborn Place and Ball Lane.April 13-17: Areas south of 15th Street and west of Ninth Avenue, including residential areas of U.S. Highway 160 west (Twin Buttes) and U.S. Highway 160 east (Three Springs) located within city limits.April 20-24: Areas north of 15th Street to 36th Street paralleling Main Avenue to the east and west, including the Animas City area.April 27-May 1: West side subdivisions, including Crestview, Needham and Junction Street areas.May 4-8: East side subdivisions, including Rio Vista Circle, Riverview and Florida Road. Items not accepted include tree stumps, rocks, dirt, liquids, concrete, bricks, electronics, batteries and tires. Household trash should be secured in a trash can for the safety of wildlife. Piles of yard waste and scrap metal should be separated.

Materials should be placed where trash cans are usually placed in alleys or by the curbside. Items can be placed out up to one week before scheduled pickup. Once crews collect along the designated pickup area, they will not return.

Materials and brush should be at least 2 feet from fences, trees, bushes, gas meters, hydrants, power poles and connection boxes. Do not block driving lanes or sidewalks.

This service is available to city residents only. Illegal dumping could result in fines up to $1,000. Report illegal dumping to 385-2900.
