Durango volleyball rolls past Montrose in three sets

Durango stays unbeaten in league play with sweep

The Durango High volleyball team cruised to a victory in three sets after one of the Demons cleanest and most balanced matches this season.

Durango (9-3, 3-0 5A/4A Southwestern League) took complete control in the first set and rolled to a 25-6 win, then held off Montrose (6-8, 2-3 SWL) 26-24 and 25-22 in the second and third sets to get the win.

“We came out firing on all cylinders – attacking, serving, I don’t know if we even made an error,” DHS head coach Colleen Vogt said of the first set. “We were just aggressive all around. Montrose picked it up in the second and third sets. Their passing got better and they put some kills down. We were down I think 19-11 in the second set and came back and won. That’s probably what I’m most proud of this team tonight, the fight and heart that they have.”

Just about every Demon did something positive on the night. Vogt said senior setter Brianna Brown played maybe her best match of the season and dished out 30 assists in the three sets.

Libero Millie O’Ketter continued her stellar play in her sophomore season with 35 digs and recorded three of the Demons 10 aces. Seniors Brett Rowland and Lana Razma led the attack with 10 kills each. Junior Taylor Wolf notched six blocks and Razma added five blocks.

The Demons will play at Grand Junction Central (2-12, 1-4 SWL) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
