The Durango High School volleyball team earned a split at the Cheyenne Mountain Tournament on Friday in Colorado Springs, falling in three to Class 4A No. 1 Lewis-Palmer before rebounding to top Eagle Valley in three.
DHS (10-10) faltered to the state’s top-ranked team according to CHSAAnow.com by a score of 25-17, 25-13, 25-15. Gabi Razma led Durango with 12 digs, while Bella Bernazzani powered the offense with seven kills and four blocks. Logan Clark had 13 assists.
Durango senior Berkeley Davis said the Demons looked better than the score might indicate.
“We played very well. We looked good, but they’re a tough team,” Davis said.
DHS bounced back quickly to scratch out a tight 28-26, 25-23, 26-24 victory over Eagle Valley to earn second place in its pool.
Razma had 16 digs, while Clark had 16 assists to go with Alli Davis’ 10. Laura Lieb had 10 kills, and Jessie Brammer had three service aces.
“We brought that fire (from the first match) to the game against Eagle Valley, and we fought and ended up executing,” Davis said.
Durango will return to the court at 10 a.m. Saturday on the final day of the tournament.
