Durango West II residents on day three of water outage

Main break not expected to be fixed until Tuesday night

Some residents in Durango West II subdivision are on day three of having no water as the result of a water main break that occurred Sunday.

According to the district’s website, a water main break was found Sunday between 84 and 112 Oak Drive, which required water to be cut. Tyler Whitt, water operator for Durango West II, said he first heard of the break around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

On Monday, crews arrived to repair the crack in the water pipe, and in doing so, discovered a much larger crack on the bottom of the pipe that extended into the street, requiring asphalt to be excavated.

As a result, the district said at 6:15 p.m. Monday that water would not be restored that night and that crews would return the next day to continue repairs.

Durango West II has more than 300 homes. Whitt said some houses have no water and others have low pressure, but he has not conducted an official count of homes affected.

Whitt said crews are trying to restore water use to homes by Tuesday night.
