A Durango woman was killed in a car crash outside Flagstaff, Arizona, last weekend, according to the Arizona Highway Patrol.
Highway Patrol public information officer Bart Graves said that around 4 p.m. Friday, authorities responded to a two-car collision on U.S. Highway 89, near milepost 450, about 30 miles north of Flagstaff.
Asa Graham, 21, of Henderson, Nevada, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, headed south on Highway 89, when he crossed the centerline and struck a Chevrolet Silverado traveling north, Graves said.
Graham was pronounced dead on the scene, Graves said.
A passenger in the Silverado, identified as Valery Blood, 45, of Durango was also pronounced dead on the scene, Graves said.
The driver of the Silverado, a 23-year-old man from Durango, and a 16-year-old female passenger were injured and taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Graves said.
Graves declined to identify the driver and passenger.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, Graves said. The crash closed the road until 8 p.m. Friday.
Graves said Graham was wearing a shoulder and lap belt. The driver of the Silverado was wearing a lap belt, and the 16-year-old passenger was wearing a shoulder and lap belt.
Graves said Blood was wearing the “lap portion of her seat belt but was not properly wearing the shoulder portion.”
A GoFundMe started for Blood’s family says the 16-year-old passenger, Braisy, Blood’s daughter, is in critical but stable condition and will remain in the intensive care unit.
“Braisy has a very long road ahead of her with therapy and healing time,” the GoFundMe page says.
