An ATV stolen from Durango Youth Baseball was recently found, but police are still looking for two teenagers suspected of taking the vehicle from the La Plata County Fairgrounds earlier this month.
Melissa McKnight, league administrator, said one of the baseball coaches found the ATV last week dumped on the side of the road near Clovis Drive.
The key was missing, McKnight said, so it’s not clear if the vehicle still runs. She said there appeared to be some motor damage.
“They probably just raced it around until it overheated or quit,” McKnight said Thursday. “Hopefully, it still runs. We’re a nonprofit, and we have no money.”
The vehicle is used for grooming the baseball fields at the fairgrounds.
The Durango Police Department said via Facebook earlier this month that the ATV – a 2005 camouflage Suzuki – was stolen around 2:30 p.m. June 6. The ATV was seen being driven west on Clovis Drive and then south on Delwood Avenue. Police say the vehicle was possibly taken by a male and female in their teens.
