The second grade team made its football debut with a scrimmage against Aztec. Stran Mietchen scored two rushing touchdowns with the help of quarterback Luke Webster. Key defenders were Tate Paulek and Ryland Lopez. The team will take on the Farmington Force this weekend at Doc Jones field in Farmington.
The third grade team had an amazing start to its season, beating Bloomfield 33-0. The rushing touchdowns were scored by Sawyer Sigle, Tobias Romero and Malcolm Rodriquez. The shutdown defense was led by Brayden Gould and Braxton Ernst. They will play Kirtland, in Ignacio at 11 a.m.
The Durango fourth grade fell hard to Aztec, 32-6. The lone touchdown was scored by Blake Bates. Durango will take on Cortez next.
The fifth grade squad stunned the Farmington force, winning 36-6. This dominant offense, led by quarterback Cole Perkins, got touchdowns from Keyon Alston, Wyler Stewart, J.C. Spain and Brekan Romero. The defense also did its part, with a pick six by Jet Gurule and help from safeties Dax Kunch and Sam Wetherill. The team will play Bayfield in Ignacio next.
The defending champions, The sixth grade Demons – the defending champions – had a nail-biting win over the Farmington Crush, 6-0. The single touchdown was scored by Rylan Ernst. Defense was the saving grace for the Demons. A key interception was caught by Keelynn Reynolds, and holding the line were Patrick Tucson, Tyler Hoerl and Hayes Fancher. The sixth graders will play in Farmington against the Bulldogs next.
