The Durango Youth Football League teams were in action on Saturday for the second games of their seasons.

The second grade team came close to the Farmington Force, but left too much time on the clock and lost, 21-20. Ryker Hollibaugh and Darren Brunson rushed for touchdowns to keep the battle tight. Vincent Westlund and Bryson Drover led the team’s defense while Feliciano Zamario Jr. recovered a fumble.

The third grade squad went to 2-0 with a 42-0 win over Kirtland on Saturday. Sawyer Sigle, Carter Lopez, Colt Bartel, Malcolm Rodriguez and Braxton Ernst scored touchdowns. Sigle also completed an extra point pass to Jameson Green. The offensive line, led by center Camden Bates, had a stellar performance. The team’s defense, meanwhile, didn’t allow a single first down. Colton Espinspsa and Jay Paulek led the team in tackles.

The fourth grade team, had a hard game and, with a depleted bench, lost to Cortez 28-0. Daniel Johnson, Ely Pinto and Tommy Munn had some big defensive plays in the game while Stevie Blevins had an interception.

The fifth grade team had a tough loss against Bayfield 26-20. Cole Perkins, Keyone Alston and Wyler Stewart scored touchdowns in the loss.

The sixth grade team improved to 2-0 by beating the Farmington Bulldogs, 27-0. Malique Rodriguez, Jordan Willbanks and Tyler Hoerl rushed for touchdowns.

Quarterback Rylan Ernst also completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jerad Lopez. On defense, Hayes Fancher, Darion Allen, Jacob Engel and Griffin McCroskey caused havoc on the defensive line, while the secondary, led by Rodriquez and Patrick Tucson, shut down any attempts of a Bulldogs pass.
