Durangoans skip Leogang WC stop

Mountain bikers focusing on second half of season

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup returned to action over the weekend in Leogang, Austria.

The four Durango mountain bikers who have been racing in the World Cup this year, however, ended up skipping the stop to focus on finishing the World Cup strong.

“It was a tough decision to sit out this weekend’s World Cup in Leogang. But after a busy start to the year and five weekends of racing in a row right around the corner, we decided to take advantage of this time and train and hop in some gravel races in the U.S.,” said Christopher Blevins on Instagram.

U23 rider Riley Amos, meanwhile, skipped the race to get healthy.

“I’ve been having some trouble staying healthy, and had some breathing problems related to allergies that have kept me from putting in some proper preparation for the race,” Amos said on Instagram. “My coach and team already had a question around this WC from the beginning of the season with how it falls on the calendar and with a crazy busy end of the season, and my health made that decision for us. It’s time to build back really strong for the second half of the year.”

Savilia Blunk and Ruth Holcomb didn’t race in Leogang either.

The World Cup will resume July 8-10 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The competitors will then race in Andorra, July 15-17, in the USA at Snowshoe in West Virginia July 29-31, in Canada Aug. 5-7 and conclude the season Sept. 2-4 in Italy.
