Durangoans’ visions for the world

Tiospaye, a local nonprofit, is challenging residents to think globally through a holiday vision tree at Natural Grocers.

“By asking a powerful question like: ‘What is your vision for the world?’ it can challenge people to think,” said Andy Matteo, a group member.

What caught Matteo off guard was how many people initially did not have an optimistic outlook for the planet. But by asking people to name their vision, it helped them find a positive spin.

“I saw the eyes light up in people,” he said.

The overwhelming theme of the responses that people wrote on ornaments to place on the tree was peace. People want to live on a peaceful planet, Matteo said.

Matteo hopes people will take action to make it a reality.

“I think we opened the door for choice by going out and asking these questions,” he said.

If you want to add your vision, the tree will be up at the store, 1123 Camino del Rio, through Jan. 5.
