Asa Vermette stepped up his riding to finish second in The Fox U.S. Open of Mountain Biking on Sunday in Killington, Vermont. The 16-year-old finished third last year at the same event.

This year Vermette won $7,500 for his runner-up finish on his downhill bike in an event which 94 riders competed. He was only one second behind 31-year-old winner Dakotah Martin.

“I’m so stoked to get second in the U.S. Open in pro men’s race,” Vermette said. “It was such a cool experience racing with the top World Cup dudes and practicing with them!

Vermette’s finish is no surprise after a season full of success. The teenager from Durango has won 13 events this year, including eight events in a row that he started in from June 25 to Sept. 9.
