Durango’s big moment? Not quite. Film crew was gathering promotional footage

‘It was just kind of a regular laid back social media content shoot,’ marketing manager says

Is Durango about to be featured in a major motion picture?

Some residents asked this very question Friday morning when they saw a film crew running around downtown Durango.

Sorry, but no dice.

Instead, the film crew was collecting footage on behalf of Visit Durango and the Colorado Tourism Office to be used in promotional materials, said Visit Durango marketing manager Nick Kogos.

“They were collecting some basic early spring, late winter content to use for social media,” Kogos said.

Photographers and videographers made their way through the downtown area and then went to the Nordic Center and the base of Purgatory Resort to shoot the Mountain Coaster and people hanging out with drinks and food.

They planned to stay Friday night for a torchlight parade at Purgatory Resort.

The film crew was expected to be small, maybe one photographer and one videographer, Kogos said. But it turned out to be six people with cameras, he said.

“I don’t know what they were doing, but that seems a little overkill,” he said with a chuckle.

He apologized for dashing anyone’s hopes that Durango would be featured in a major motion picture.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it was just kind of a regular laid back social media content shoot,” he said. “ … Not Bradley Cooper. Not (Martin) Scorsese. Sorry, y’all.”
