Get ready for Mother’s Day baseball in Durango.
Durango High School athletic director David Preszler announced Saturday morning that the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 4A District 2 state baseball tournament would be postponed from its scheduled start Saturday morning until Sunday.
Inclement weather and wet field conditions led to the decision, and the majority of the district tournaments around the state have been postponed, with an exception being Bayfield High School’s 3A District 7 tournament.
“It’s an unfortunate thing, but the field is too wet to play on,” Preszler said. “We will follow CHSAA protocol and begin the games Sunday morning, hopefully.”
No. 8 Durango was slated to begin the tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday against No. 25 Eagle Valley. That game originally was delayed, but the decision was made shortly after 10:30 a.m. to postpone the entire tournament one day.
No. 24 Delta and No. 9 Evergreen were slated to play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sunday’s game times will be the same as originally scheduled Saturday. The winners of the two games will advance to the district championship at 3 p.m. Sunday, with that winner making the final eight of the state tournament next weekend in Denver.
All four teams practiced Saturday inside the Durango High School auxiliary gym.
