Durango’s fifth-grade Young America Football League team’s season came to an end in the Four Corners YAFL Super Bowl.
The Demons, who entered the finale unbeaten, couldn’t find a way past the Farmington Titans, who rolled to a 26-2 victory Saturday at Bobcat Stadium in Bloomfield.
It was the third year in a row the two teams met in the Super Bowl.
The defenses controlled the first quarter and each side gave up little to the other’s offense.
The Titans took control in the second quarter with two big touchdown runs that gave Farmington a 13-0 lead at halftime.
The third quarter returned to a defensive battle, and the Titans got the better end of it with an interception returned for a touchdown.
Farmington added one more TD to get to 26 points.
Durango’s defense, which gave up an average of fewer than five points per game during the season, scored the Demons’ only points of the day in the fourth quarter. With the Titans backed up against their own goal line, the Demons’ pass rush flushed the Farmington quarterback out of the pocket, directly to outside linebacker Cully Feeney, who wrapped up the QB in the end zone for a safety.
