Kermitt Barrett of Durango won the club championship at the Hillcrest Golf Club over the weekend. Barrett shot a 77 Saturday and went into Sunday trailing Eric Neal by a single stroke.
On Sunday, however, Barrett had the best round of the competition, shooting a 73 to finish with a gross score of 150 in the individual stroke play tournament. Neal also lowered his score Sunday, down to a 75, but finished in second with a 151.
"The first day played pretty hard," said the club's Jackson Tomiyama. "It was windy, the greens were fast and the smoke made it hard to see the ball. The second day was a little easier. The wind died down, but it was still a tough course setup."
Eben Harrell finished third in the championship flight with a 156 while Luke Tichi won the flight's net championship with a 144.
In the women's flight, Dee Ray shot an 80 on Saturday to take the early lead, but Aimee Fladt caught her on Sunday by shooting a 79. Tied at 161 after 36 holes, the golfers did a playoff hole and Fladt bested Ray to emerge as the overall champion. Jeannie Wheeldon won the net title with a 150.
Richard Mallett won the blue/gold flight by eight strokes with a 152. Brain Dommer won the flight's net division with a 151.
In the blue flight 1, Ken Kirby shot an 85 and then a 71 to finish first with a 156, two shots better than David Schanzenbaker. Bryant Chavez finished third in the flight with a 159 gross, but finished first in net with a 147.
Hans Hollenbeck, meanwhile, won the blue flight 3 with a 187.
