Durango’s Krueger slices through Bayfield High School girls soccer

DHS junior varsity outplays Bayfield varsity

Angela Krueger was more than the Bayfield High School girls soccer team could stop Tuesday.

Playing against the Wolverines’ varsity squad, Durango High School junior varsity’s Krueger scored two goals and caused an own-goal by Bayfield in a 3-0 win for the Durango junior varsity squad.

Krueger scored her first in spectacular fashion in the 39th minute. She split two Bayfield defenders and scored while falling down with BHS goalkeeper Kailee Millard right on top of her.

The score made it 1-0 going into the halftime break.

Bayfield (4-3, 4-2 3A Region 5) made a costly mistake early in the second half, as an own-goal slipped past Millard. Krueger attempted a long crossing pass, and a BHS defender tried to kick it away from her goal but found the back of her own net instead.

Krueger again found the back of the net in the 55th minute, as she ripped a top-shelf goal over the head of Millard from inside the 18-yard box.

Lily Oles earned the win in goal for the Demons, while BHS used two goalies.

Savannah Kaufmann started the game in goal but moved up to forward after 11 minutes of action, giving way to Millard.

Bayfield’s next game is a big league matchup at 4 p.m. Thursday at Alamosa. The league-leading Mean Moose (8-0, 8-0 3A Region 5) defeated Bayfield 2-1 in Bayfield on March 17.
