SAN FRANCISCO – Andrew Susac usually takes a back seat to Buster Posey. For at least one day, they shared the spotlight.
Posey drove in two runs, and Susac had a three-run double in the seventh inning to rally the San Francisco Giants to a 7-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
The Rockies intentionally walked Posey to load the bases for Susac, who has an eight-game hitting streak.
“When I saw the base open, I knew they would do it,” Susac said. “I didn’t change my approach. I was able to get it past them.”
Matt Duffy added three hits, including a home run, for the Giants, who won three games in a homestand for the first time since sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 19-21.
“Andrew’s play has picked up. He’s earned this,” Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said. “The more he plays, the more comfortable he’s getting. He came through with the big hit when we needed it.”
Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI-double, and Wilin Rosario added two hits and drove in a run for the Rockies, who had won five of their previous six games.
“We gave them a couple of extra outs,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said.
George Kontos (2-0) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win. Santiago Casilla pitched the ninth for his 20th save.
Rafael Betancourt (2-3), making his second appearance since being activated from the disabled list, gave up Susac’s hit.
“He put a good swing on the ball and hit it in the right place,” Betancourt said. “There was nothing I could do about it.”
Giants starter Tim Lincecum had a rough outing. He lasted 1 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and four hits. He left the game in the top of the second inning after he was hit just above his right elbow by D.J. LeMahieu’s line drive.
Lincecum walked two and struck out one while failing to get out of the second inning for the second consecutive start.
Yusemeiro Petit took over for Lincecum and went 4 1/3 innings. He gave up two runs and three hits.
Chris Rusin gave up five runs – two earned – and 10 hits for the Rockies. He walked one, struck out four and also drove in a run.
“Rus did a great job,” Weiss said. “He commanded his pitches and gave us length.”
Troy Tulowitzki and Charlie Blackmon each drove in a run and extended their hitting streaks to 11 games.
