Telluride to host Water 101 Seminar
Telluride will host the annual Water 101 Seminar from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Telluride Town Council Chambers Rebekah Hall, 113 East Columbia Ave.
The seminar will offer continuing education credits for lawyers, real estate agents and Colorado water utility personnel.
The keynote speaker will be Colorado Supreme Court Justice Gregory Hobbs. In addition, representatives from federal, state and local agencies will provide explanations about water law and related issues, including: local water sources, water administration, environmental concerns and answers to key questions about the acquisition and use of water as well as water-related legal and real estate transactions.
Registration fee is $35 before Sept. 15 or $40 after that date and at the door. The fee includes lunch, snack and an information packet. The fee for professionals seeking credits is $50 before Sept. 15 or $60 at the door.

Navajo State Park seeking information
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Navajo State Park, and the public is invited to visit the park Aug. 23 for activities and programs to commemorate its opening.
A special ceremony will be held at noon. Anyone who participated in the construction or planning of the Navajo dam project or park is asked to send an email to Janet Clawson, park naturalist, who is collecting historical information.
She also would like to hear from people who lived in the area at the time and remember the development of the project and from longtime visitors to the park. She also is trying to find old pictures of the area.

Durango Mountain Resort to host Mushroom Festival
Durango Mountain Resort will host the 2014 Mushroom Festival on Aug. 23.
A guided mushroom-foraging hike will begin at 9:30 a.m. State-recognized mushroom expert Chris Ricci, proprietor of Majesty Mushrooms, will show hikers which mushrooms can be taken home and eaten. After gathering mushrooms, participants will be served lunch.
The cost is $40 per person, which includes a guide, shuttle service and lunch. Children 3 and younger are free.
From 3 to 6 p.m., the festival will offer educational presentations. Seminars by Majesty Mushrooms and San Juan Mycology will educate people about how to identify mushrooms, how to grow mushrooms and more.
Executive chef Sean Clark with El Moro Spirits & Tavern and chef Sergio Verduzco with East by Southwest will conduct cooking demonstrations of mushroom-inspired dishes.
Cream Bean Berry will feature a mushroom-infused artisan ice cream for dessert. The Assortment will play live music.
The cost of the festival is $40 per person. Children 12 and younger will receive free admission. There will be crafts, games and kid-friendly food and beverages.

Animal Signs Workshop to take place Saturday
Durango Nature Studies will host an Animal Signs Workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Durango Nature Center.
The cost is $10 for nonmembers and free for members. All workshop participants receive free entry to the Nature Center, which is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Participants will learn about common animal signs in the Four Corners and what tracks, scat, markings and other signs can tell about different habitats and the activity within them.

Navajo State Park to host coloring contest
Navajo State Park will hold a kids’ coloring contest as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.
Children 12 and younger can draw what they love about Navajo State Park, such as wildlife, boating, campfires, the water, a ranger, etc. The finished drawings will be displayed in the outdoor lobby for visitors to view. Drawings must be submitted by Nov. 1. Entry forms can be picked up at the park visitors’ center.

Mancos State Park to offer programs
Mancos State Park, 42545 County Road N, Mancos, will offer these programs:
Park naturalist Carol Bylsma will lead a butterfly and insect walk from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Participants will learn to identify, catch and release butterflies and insects.
Bylsma will lead “Wild Games” from 3 to 3:35 p.m. Saturday. Participants will learn about Colorado’s predators.
A campfire program will feature information about Mancos State Park at 7 p.m. Saturday. The program will discuss bear awareness while camping and hiking. Prizes will be awarded.
Bylsma will lead another butterfly and insect walk from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Free, edible plant walk scheduled for Aug. 27
Katrina Blair, edible plant expert and co-founder of Turtle Lake Refuge, will lead a free, edible plant walk from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 along the Colorado Trail.
The walk is sponsored by San Juan Mountains Association and San Juan National Forest.
