Subalpine flower hike to be held

The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will host a Subalpine Flowers Hike on Friday in Columbus Basin of La Plata Canyon.

This trip will be moderately paced. Participants will explore high montane and subalpine flower fields.

Chimney Rock to be discussed Friday

Archaeologist Michelle Turner will discuss Chimney Rock at 7 p.m. Friday at the Aztec Ruins Visitor Center, 84 Road 2900 in Aztec.

Turner’s lecture will revisit traditional interpretations of Chimney Rock and reconsider it as a place where indigenous traditions may have persisted alongside Chacoan ways.

Her shared research will present Chimney Rock as a location of creative development that may have had a profound influence on Chacoan society.

Alpine wildflower hike to be held

The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will host an Alpine Wildflowers hike Tuesday at a location about 30 minutes north of Silverton.

This trip will be moderately paced. The group will travel to an alpine area near Silverton for an exploratory trip. There will be plenty of time for taking photographs.

Participants will meet at 6:30 a.m. in Durango to carpool. People with four-wheel drive are asked to bring their vehicles. Participants should bring sunblock, layers of clothing and rain gear.
