Treasure hunt for children at Mesa Verde
Aramark, Mesa Verde National Park’s concessionaire, will host a free treasure hunt for kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday as part of Kids to Parks Day, a nationwide day of outdoor play, organized by the National Park Trust.
Three containers, each holding a silicone wristband, will be placed around the property near Spruce Tree Terrace. The wristbands will each have one word printed on them; when all three are found, they will make up the complete phrase “Kids to Parks.”
A list of location hints will be provided at the Spruce Tree Terrace gift shop. The first 20 participants who collect the full set will be able to return to the retail store at Spruce Tree Terrace to receive a Buddy Bison plush animal, the National Park Trust’s pint-size mascot.

Comments sought on grazing analysis
The San Juan National Forest Columbine Ranger District is accepting public comment on a Draft Environmental Assessment for the Weminuche Landscape Grazing Analysis.
The analysis area encompasses about 166,700 acres on 13 grazing allotments on the northern end of Missionary Ridge stretching east across the Weminuche Wilderness to the Pine River.
The proposed action is to continue to permit livestock grazing on the six allotments currently being grazed; five allotments would continue to be grazed by sheep and one would be converted to cattle use; install some fences and water developments; apply a “sunset clause” to the five active sheep allotments; apply adaptive management strategies; apply design criteria; make minor allotment boundary adjustments; and close the seven vacant allotments to livestock grazing.
The assessment, including maps, is available at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/sanjuan/projects.
Written comments can be submitted, no later than June 16, to Anthony Madrid, Acting Columbine District Ranger, P.O. Box 439, 367 Pearl St., Bayfield, CO 81122, or email comments-rocky-mountain-san-juan-columbine@fs.fed.us.
For more information, a hard copy of the assessment or help on submitting comments, call Beth Jones at 884-1429 or visit the above website.
