State Forest Service offers seedling trees

The Colorado State Forest Service, in conjunction with the La Plata Conservation District, is accepting applications for more than 40 varieties of low-cost seedling trees and shrubs.

This year the Forest Service nursery also has added grasses and wildflowers to its inventory.

Seedlings ordered now will be distributed in the spring. People interested in conservation goals – such as creating natural windbreaks, improving wildlife habitat or reforesting properties affected by wildfire or other natural disturbances – are eligible to purchase the low-cost seedlings.

Landowners must agree to use them for conservation purposes only and not resell them. There is no minimum acreage requirement.

An updated seedling inventory can be found at http://csfs.colostate.edu under the “Seedling Tree Nursery” tab.

For more information, call 259-3289, ext. 3, or 247-5250.
